Retinal Tear
A retinal tear is a medical term used to describe when a part of the retina gets torn away from its normal location on the back surface of the eye. Retinal tears are often associated with floaters and/or flashing lights but may also be asymptomatic.
Retinal tears can result in retinal detachments (see below) which can occur slowly or rapidly. Retinal tears can be treated by a retina specialist with a laser procedure in the office to decrease the risk of retinal detachment.
